Establishing a New Standard for Politicians
Phil is an Environmentalist, and he's been active in environmental issues for over 40 years -- at Tribal, International, National, State, and Local levels.
Through this campaign, Phil hopes to establish a new standard for politicians --that is, he wants to destroy the image people now have of those running for office. He pledges that he will always be open and honest with you, and that what he says he'll do in Lansing is what he will do.
He wants to spend 99% of his time on this campaign talking about the issues that affect 99% of the voters in the 37th State Senate District, and when he goes to Lansing, he wants to devote 99% of his time working for the 99%.
To that end, Dr. Bellfy believes that the the environment is the District's top priority, and he will spend much of his time bringing attention to the environmental threats facing Northern Michigan during his campaign.
Among those threats is the Enbridge pipeline under the Mackinac Bridge, fracking in the the Northern Lower Peninsula, the Graymont limestone mining threat in the EUP, as well as the Mascoma/Frontier cellulosic ethanol refinery proposed for Kinross, in Chippewa County (they propose that the refinery will need "feedstock" from an area 150-miles in radius from Kinross, which will result in every tree being cut down throughout the entire District, over time). UPDATE --according to the company, the Kinross refinery "is unlikely to happen" (http://ethanolproducer.com/articles/11252/mascoma-confirms-strategy-shift-outlines-plans-for-technology --dated July 14, 2014). Another victory for common sense and environmental responsibility.
I'm very happy to announce that I've received the endorsement of the Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club. The endorsement is a testament to my commitment to insure that Northern Michigan's Clean and Green environment, and all that it gives us, will be preserved for future generations.
