Sherman Lea, Sr. is a family man and a man of the community. Lea has been married for 38 years to Clara S. Lea and is the proud father of two enterprising adult children, grandfather to three and father-in-law. Lea retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after a 35-year career, with his last position as Western Regional Director.
Sherman Lea, Sr. has served Roanoke City in multiple capacities over the past 17 years of public service - as an elected official on Roanoke City Council and an appointed member to the Roanoke City School Board, where he also served as Chairman.
As part of serving the community as Councilman, Sherman Lea established two Domestic Violence Task Forces to address the rise in violence and abuse against women and children in our community. The outcomes were the addition of domestic violence staff in the Department of Social Services, the use of town hall meetings across the Roanoke Valley to educate the public on resources available to help victims and for the prevention of domestic violence, and support of the Roanoke City Police Department's initiative of adding trained domestic violence staff and officers.
Join us this Saturday January 9th at the Berglund Center for The Lea's High School Winter Classic. This game will feature premiere talent in our region along with future Division-1 and NBA players. More importantly this game will recognize and help raise funds for local nonprofits.
